After a rocky season of continual setbacks, the Mustangs pulled it together to run their finest team race of the season and qualify for the State Meet. They placed 5th behind champion Sandburg along with Hinsdale Central, Downers North, and Lyons Township.
John Heneghan led the way placing 17th overall on the incredibly muddy course at Lyons Township. Number two for DGS was sophomore Tim Neumann who was absolutely clutch in running by far his best race ever. He placed 21st. Close behind were a trio of seniors that rounded out the scoring. Canyon Stage and John Norris both finished in the top 30, while Nathan Luczak ran his best race to finish 42nd as the DGS #5.
This is the 5th time in DGS history to qualify a team to the state meet. It’s also the 3rd in a row and 4th time in 5 years. John Heneghan will be just the 3rd Mustang ever (along with Stephen Pipilas and Edwin Siuda) to compete in the state meet 3 times. Norris and Stage got experience last year while the other Mustangs are making their state meet debut.
