By JOSHUA WELGE@jwelge96

Downers Grove North (4-4) at Downers Grove South (5-3)

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Last matchup: Downers Grove North beat Downers Grove South 10-0 last year.

About Downers Grove North: For the second straight season, the Trojans go into Week 9 needing a win to reach the playoffs. Last year, they lost to York 14-7. Downers Grove North put itself in a tight spot with a surprising 19-14 loss in Week 8 to Lyons. Josh Lumpkin and Drew Cassens both went over 100 yards in defeat. The Trojans have won the last four crosstown meetings.

About Downers Grove South: The Mustangs have already clinched their first playoff appearance since 2014; now they can sink their crosstown rivals’ postseason shot. Sophomore Eli Reed has emerged as a big-play threat and complement to Jayden Lambert with two touchdowns in four separate games. The Mustangs have allowed just nine points combined during a three-game winning streak, albeit against opponents with a combined 6-18 record.
